“Assessment of Central Nervous System and Fascia for Full Body Treatment Protocol”

Few systems have as much impact on the human body as the craniosacral system. It protects and nourishes the brain and spinal cord – and affects nearly every aspect of central nervous system performance.

That’s why CranioSacral Therapy is so critical to your healthcare practice. Developed after years of university research and testing, it allows you to release fascial restrictions anywhere on the body that may be impinging the craniosacral system and every other system it interacts with.

In this workshop you’ll learn gentle techniques to normalize the craniosacral system and allow the body to self-correct. By unraveling pain and dysfunction at the source, you’ll naturally help eliminate stress, strengthen resistance to disease, and enhance health in every dimension.

Learner Objectives

  • Explain the craniosacral system and study techniques to effect change
  • Describe the anatomy and physiology of the craniosacral system and its relationship to illness, pain and dysfunction
  • Develop and refine your light-touch palpation skills to access subtle restrictions in the body by focusing on the cranium, sacrum, craniosacral rhythm and related soft tissue
  • Describe a comparative-anatomy slide presentation focusing on cranial bones, their related sutures, and the difference between treated and untreated intracranial membranes, the dural membrane system and it’s relationship to the skeletal/anatomy & neurological
  • Practice a concise 10-step evaluation and procedure protocol you can easily integrate into your existing practice
  • Specific Techniques Include:
    • Subtle palpation of three rhythms: heart, respiratory, craniosacral
    • Release of pelvic diaphragms, respiratory diaphragms, thoracic inlet and occipital cranial base
    • CV-4 and other still-point inductions
    • V-spread
    • Frontal lift
    • Parietal lift
    • Sphenoid compression-decompression
    • Temporal techniques: mastoid wobble, circumferential, ear pull (bilateral decompression)
    • Dural tube evaluation, traction and correction
    • Cranial pumping
    • Clinical indications and contraindications for all techniques
    • TMJ techniques
    • 10-Step Protocol.
  • Demonstrate all techniques under supervision

Course Highlights

By the end of this 4-day workshop you should be able to:

  • Describe the scientific foundation and principles of CranioSacral Therapy – and why it\’s the key to relieving pain and dysfunction at their source
  • Demonstrate finely tuned palpation skills you can rely on as highly sensitive and intuitive healthcare tools
Identify the subtle craniosacral rhythm and interpret its patterns to accurately evaluate dysfunction and improvements
  • Locate the source of physical problems by traveling through the fascial system, that complex web of tissue that impacts all body structures and systems
  • Release dural tube restrictions to enhance interactions between the central nervous system and the rest of the body
  • Use techniques that produce dramatic health and relaxation effects, including Direction of Energy and Still-Point Induction
  • Work with approaches to a number of common ailments such as TMJ dysfunction, head and neck pain, central nervous system disorders and many more
  • Put a simple, effective 10-Step Protocol into practice right away

Required Advance Reading:

CranioSacral Therapy, chapters 1-6, by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM, and Jon D. Vredevoogd, MFA;
Your Inner Physician and You by Dr. John E. Upledger

Prerequisite:

Professional healthcare practitioner, student in healthcare program or graduate awaiting licensure/accreditation with experience in sensitive, light-touch palpation.

For those who wish to take CS1, and live in a state or province that does not require a healthcare hands-on license to practice CST, the following minimum study is required:

  1. 80 hours of Anatomy and Physiology and 15 hours of Pathology. One way to satisfy this requirement is through the home study coursework, Upledger Health Science Essentials, available through the London (Ontario) College of Osteopathy.
  2. 4 hours of ethics, from an organization such as the American Massage Therapy Association.

Testimonials

” I appreciate the conducive learning energy in the classes. Each time I attend a course, I discover more about this amazing body work.”
— Roxanne Foo, PT

” The treatment of chronic pain is rarely straightforward, making Craniosacral Therapy (CST) and Visceral Manipulation (VM) valuable tools in addressing the needs of this complex client population. CST offers a gentle, non-invasive approach that can be particularly effective in supporting individuals on a nuanced and often delicate healing journey. From a musculoskeletal standpoint, VM provides a unique perspective by encouraging consideration of the abdominal cavity and its potential contribution to the symptoms presented—offering a meaningful complement to a traditional physiotherapy assessment and treatment plan. “
Ruth Norwinda, DPT

” The instructors from VM, NM, CST, LDT and a series of advanced courses are highly experienced and knowledgeable. We have plenty of hands-on guidance with Q&A time to related to clinical cases. I learned advanced skills in tissue palpation “listen-follow” to detect tissue restrictions and feel fluid movements to evaluate and provide manual treatments for my clients with various pain and mobility issues. The results of the work also facilitate better exercise outcomes which motivate my clients to continue their home exercises. My work as a physiotherapist cannot be more fulfilling and fun without the inspiration and knowledge I gained from all these workshops!”
Choong Li Sann, PT

”  “Feel first and think later”. This has been the key motto for my musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice since I integrated visceral manipulation and craniosacral approaches in my work.
“Feel” refers to the manual listening of the body to find out what it needs at that moment for the presentation of the symptom(s).
The “Think” part is the structural differential diagnosis to clinically reason why the body is suffering. This approach has benefited many of my patients and my understanding of the body at a different layer.”
— Dr Ng Chong Ching (DMT), Manualcircle

” This course has added another dimension to my practice as a naturopathic and ayurvedic Physician. “
— Dr Risha Sharma (Singapore)

” CST class give more option and opportunity to help people improve their quality of life. It can be such a big help in overcoming health issues. “
— Lani Setyadi, kinesiologist (Indonesia)

” Dr Thomas Rasmussen’s craniosacral therapy training was insightful and inspiring. His calm, clear guidance made complex concepts feel accessible and his passion for healing was truly contagious. I left feeling confident, connected and excited to continue this journey.”
— Roxanne Goh, Bikram yoga instructor
